Who we are
Illinois has one Family Violence Coordinating Council for each of its 23 Judicial Circuits. The purpose of the Councils, at both the state and local circuit levels, is to establish a forum to improve the institutional, professional and community response to family violence, which includes but is not limited to child abuse, domestic abuse, and elder abuse; to engage in education and prevention; to coordinate intervention and services for victims and perpetrators; and to contribute to the improvement of the legal system and the administration of justice.
Established in 1996, the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Family Violence Prevention Council (Council) works with local service providers and community members in Bureau, Grundy, and LaSalle Counties to develop or expand needed services to address such forms of violence as child abuse, youth dating violence, adult partner abuse, elder abuse, and suicide. The Council is also recognized as a leading provider of workshops regarding topics related to interpersonal violence.
Our vision is to establish a community where everyone not only feels safe, but is safe. Our role in achieving this goal is to bring together members.
Our membership
The Council is made up of members of the general community, service providers, law enforcement and judicial agencies dedicated to providing an effective, coordinated response toward interpersonal violence through programs that educate the community about violence and abuse in all its forms. A key part of our strategy is to engage the public in violence prevention and to inform the community about what assistance is available, whether for victims or perpetrators.
